Pregnancy announcements are some of the cutest and funnest things to look up when bored. Granted, grand announcements aren’t my thing, being an introvert – but my husband can’t help but want to prank our parents when it was time for us to make the announcement. Did I mention April Fool’s Day is his favorite holiday?
We were having our usual biweekly dinner with his family when the hubs decided to tell my crazy work story. He mentioned how somebody was eating my lunch – but not all of it, just little bites here and there. So he figured out to set up a camera to catch them. And then we showed them what the camera caught…
My step-mom-in-law took a look and in a few seconds figured it out right away. She went “no! Oh my god, congrats!” and stood up to hug us. My father-in-law just sat there and went “what is that? a rat?” even after my SMIL was hugging us. We had to explicitly tell him “no, we’re pregnant. That’s a baby!” Hah – men.
We were a little more straightforward with my family. My dad and hubs were sitting at the dining table debating something, and I was on the couch with my mom and sister. I just handed over my phone with the ultrasound. My mom took a look, grinned big and went “really??” Me: Yes. Her: Really?? Me: Yes!
She then turned to my dad and goes “stop arguing with J! They’re having a baby.” My dad ignored her at first, until my sister goes, “Dad, did you hear what Mom said?”
Him: Yes, yes..they’re having a baby.
*pauses* wait. *looks at my mom like she’s the one that’s pregnant* who?
My sister: Who do you think!
As a note, my sister hadn’t even been with her boyfriend at that time for a year, and my mom is past the time for when she can have babies. Apparently, our fathers take a little longer to understand the news than our mothers did…who would’ve guessed!
