I didn’t really start showing or needing maternity clothing til close to the end of my second trimester. I will say though, the shirts and blouse options available were either not terrific looking or expensive (well… More than I was willing to spend on something I would only wear for a small amount of time). And forget professional maternity clothing! Why can’t Banana Republic and Express (my go to for professional clothes) create a maternity section?
Luckily, being a bit smaller, except for my belly, I found an alternative! Wrap dresses and tunic style shirts. I don’t mind spending the money because I can still wear them afterwards. I tend to like wrap dresses anyway, since I felt that they were more flattering for my slim frame. Just had to make sure they were long enough so that when my belly lifted the front, I wasn’t flashing anybody! Tunic style shirts that were slightly stretchy were perfect, since they were longer lengths, which accomodated the shifting up of the length when my belly expanded.
As for sleep shirts..by the time I hit my third trimester, the only thing that was comfortable for me were my husband’s undershirts. Everything else either made me itchy or hot, for some reason. At least I saved money and didn’t have to buy more clothes! Though, I’m sure my husband could’ve used moer undershirts those last few months…
