So baby Goober has reached the point where he can climb out of his crib…even with his mattress lowered all the way to the ground. We’ve temporarily stopped him by putting him in a sleepsack, but this isn’t a baby post – it’s a DIY post! Since we think it’s only a matter of time before he outsmarts the sleepsack, we’re preparing for when he’ll need to be free roaming in the roam – which means we need to get rid of all plugged in lights, etc. The problem: the room has a ceiling fan – great! But…no ceiling light. It was time for an upgrade.
So we looked around and found one we liked. It arrived last week, so that was my hubby’s project this past weekend! It was definitely interesting having to time the project around naptimes and juggling only having one person be able to do the project (since the other person has to watch the Goob).
I have to admit – I think this was one of the simplest projects we did! Well, I say “we” but it was all hubs. We didn’t have to drill new holes. There weren’t suprise wires we had no idea what to do with, and everything was super light. The only complication was when we both had to be up there to wire it (one holding the fan/light combo, and the other one connecting the wires). Then we had to put the baby in his crib – he was not happy about that, but we were able to do it! Then it was time to see if it’d turn on.
It did! But then, we couldn’t get the fan going. Turns out the remote that came with the fan didn’t take double or triple A but a special size we didn’t have (and with COVID, we weren’t walking into a store just to get it). But, the fan had an app! The instructions were a bit confusing, but the hubs figured it out, and we were able to get it going. I was worried the fan wouldn’t be strong enough, but it was fine, if a bit noisier than what we had before. The light (led) is completely customizable though, which is nice – dimmable and has slightly different colors. So far, no regrets – but it’s only been a few days. In fact, we just ordered more for the rest of the bedrooms (so they can all match).
