Ultrasounds suck at diagnosing things

Ultrasounds have got to be one of the first things that really make it feel real that you have a baby in you. I definitely get excited when you get that first ultrasound. However, I keep running into issues with my blood tests showing issues with the baby. They always try to do an ultrasound to help diagnose, but do you know how it goes? Well, there’s a spot here, but it could be nothing or exactly what the blood test showed. There’s this calcium deposit that could be Down Syndrome, but it’s also something that’s not uncommon in Asians. There’s something that shows up in the bowels. It could be cystic fibrosis, an infectious disease, or nothing.

Uh. Ok. Not super helpful…but it’s better than nothing if you don’t want to go through a more invasive test, like an amniocentesis. I’ve chosen to get the amnio, since (to me) the risks were negligible, and it was really important to me to know with absolute (or as absolute as it can get) certainty. I have to say though, I feel like ultrasounds just end up scaring me and stressing me out until the rest of the results come in!
